Walking Trails in Ireland

Get out there and enjoy the wildlife, habitats and landscape that Ireland has to offer. Check out some of the online resources below which provide a wealth of information on cycling and walking trails around the country.

Discover Ireland

Fáilte Ireland’s Discover Ireland website has lots of information on outdoor activities in Ireland. Walks are split into types so you can choose from one-day Loop walks and long distance Waymarked Walks, to forest walks, national parks and pilgrim paths. Click on the ‘Walking in Ireland’ page for more information. A number of walks have two to three loops from the trailhead to choose from. Each trailhead provides facilities such as car parks, map boards & picnic areas.

Waymarked Ways of Ireland

From the reasonably short 26-km Cavan Way to the 214km Kerry Way, these routes are split into stages with accommodation along the way so you break up the journey how you like. There are 31 National Waymarked Ways all of which are signposted with standard markers with most having maps and guidebooks to accompany them.

Coillte Outdoors

Coillte, Ireland’s leading forestry company, has over 150 woodland sites across the country for outdoor recreation enthusiasts to enjoy. Coillte’s woodlands are located in some of Ireland’s most beautiful locations and provide perfect places for families or enthusiasts to walk, hike or mountain bike. The Coillte Outdoors website allows you to search for recreational sites by county, or by activity. Maps directions, and site descriptions are all included.
