Guidelines for the protection of Biodiversity within the Extractive Industry

These Guidelines were developed to assist the extractive industry sector in meeting legal and planning requirements in order to protect Ireland’s ecosystems, habitats and species when carrying out their work.

Biodiversity that can be found at extractive sites in Ireland include bats, badgers, peregrine falcons, hedgehogs, Irish hares, frogs, natterjack toads, ravens, broad-leaved herbs and grasses such as ox-eye daisy, clover and several types of orchid.

The Guidelines include information on why biodiversity is under threat in Ireland, as well as case studies on best practice being implemented by Irish Concrete Federation members to protect biodiversity and Irelands’ natural heritage.

The Irish Concrete Federation and the European Aggregate Producers Association (UEPG) worked with Notice Nature to develop these Guidelines as a comprehensive guide for both industry operators and statutory bodies such as Local Authorities.
